High Voltage Reviews

03.08.10

The reviews are in! We can’t believe how much of a response we had at High Voltage a little over a week ago from fans old and new – thank you all once again. The online reviews have come flooding in and we’re hoping to get a mention in print in the next month or so when the festival gets it’s printed review. If we do, we’ll let you know.

We’ll have the reviews on our press page soon but for now, you can read them all below (plus a few lovely comments from our facebook page!)…

“Over at the Metal Hammer stage, Wales’ finest young rock band, Lethargy, proved their worth with a storming set full of angsty complexity. This was a monstrous performance peppered with true class; surely there are great things in prospect for this fresh-faced and enthusiastic four-piece. Show closer Purification – also the title of their current album, out now on Classic Rock’s Powerage label – sounded suitably mayhemic and maniacal. Breathtaking stuff.”

- Geoff Barton, Classic Rock

“The excellent weather thankfully stayed with us for the second day of the High Voltage festival, and as Lethargy opened the Metal Hammer stage there was a nice, laid back vibe about the whole occasion. Once again there wasn’t a huge crowd and nothing ever seemed too busy, no queue to get in, no queue at the bar.

We parked our little group outside the bar at the side of the Metal Hammer stage and enjoyed Lethargy from that vantage point. The South Wales band are another up and coming British band that seem destined for great things. Check out their new album ‘Purification’, it’s a bit good.”

- Cack Blabbath

“As we arrive at the main stage on the Sunday that little bit hazier than yesterday morning, it appears something is afoot, as The Quireboys seem to take an age to come out, subsequently throwing most of the timings out on the main stage. Had they put on a great set, it wouldn’t really have mattered, but as it happens, they turn out to be one of, if not the weakest band of the weekend. However, every cloud has a sliver lining, which in this instance was leaving the main stage only to discover Welsh rockers Lethargy, who prove to be infinitely more interesting to watch than The Quireboys. Part grunge, part no-nonsense hard rock, the band put on a suitably frenzied show, complete with heaps of hook-laden classic rock riffs, a slice of Soundgarden-esque bleakness and some seriously impressive windmilling dreadlocks to boot.”

“Over on the Metal Hammer stage, Lethargy kick off with an energetic performance. It’s a shame the crowd is relatively small because the band clearly have a knack for songwriting and it would only take the right media outlets latching on for them to be absolutely huge. There’s nothing they aren’t doing better to the similar bands in the circuit and have the ability to captivate fans of all styles of hard rock and heavy metal. Closing with their album’s title track ‘Purification’, the humbled Welsh quartet are definitely ones to watch out for in future”

- Noise Addiction

Lethargy – fucking superb – first saw these at HRH 2 and then at Camden Barfly and met them in Ibiza. Great bunch of lads and did extremely well – they attracted quite a lot of interest in spite of the fact they were up against Wishbone Ash and the Quireboys”

- KILBURNFLYER

Thanks all round for the reviews and comments. If you missed the gig there’s some video footage on our VIDEO PAGE.
